Meet The PracticeSurgical Team

We believe it is very important to have a tight, cohesive team in the operating room that works together safely and efficiently. Not only does this help minimize anesthesia time, but it also helps ensure that you have the best possible surgical and aesthetic outcome.

Microsurgical Team

In our practice, microsurgical breast restoration is always performed by at least two experienced board-certified plastic surgeons with specialized expertise in perforator flap breast reconstruction. We do not use residents or fellows in training, and the team works together closely in the operating room on delicate and specialized procedures to significantly reduce the amount of time that you spend under general anesthesia.

Breast Surgeons

For women who are undergoing immediate breast reconstruction – that is, mastectomy and breast restoration in the same operation – the team will also include a board-certified breast surgeon. All of our breast surgeons are oncologic breast specialists who offer the most advanced treatment for breast cancer, including skill and expertise with skin-sparing mastectomy and nipple-sparing mastectomy for the best aesthetic outcome.

Anesthesiology

Experienced anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists familiar with the special requirements of microsurgery will administer your anesthesia. Our anesthesiology team has extensive experience with the special anesthesia needs in microsurgery.

Postoperative Nursing

Perforator flap breast reconstruction requires very specialized postoperative monitoring by nurses who have extensive experience with microsurgical free flaps. The nursing staff is extremely skilled and familiar with the postoperative care needed after perforator flap breast reconstruction. For patients who would like extra care, our patients hire skilled, dedicated, and experienced private duty nurses under the direction of Maria LaCava, RN.

Multidisciplinary Treatment

If you plan to have your full breast cancer treatment in New York City, our staff can help coordinate all aspects of your care with a multidisciplinary team of specialists, including medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and lymphedema therapists. Contact us if you would like to make an appointment and learn more about your options.

Many of our patients have volunteered to speak with other women who may have questions about what it is like to go through restorative breast and body surgery. If you would like to speak with someone who has already gone through the process, please contact us and we will find a “buddy” for you.

#BosomBuddies

The Bosom Buddies are available for emotional support, practical tips, sharing stories, and other types of real life help that can help other women feel more comfortable and safe in their journey.

Out-of-Town Patients

Patient Resources

In order to make intelligent decisions, it is important for a woman to do her research and educate herself about all of the choices available to her. A library is a collection of information sources made accessible to a community for reference.
