Cook for Your Life 10th Anniversary Celebration

Join us as we celebrate Cook for Your LIFE's 10th Anniversary!

Cook for Your LIFE transforms the lives of over 2.5 million people annually, fulfilling its mission to teach healthy cooking to people touched by cancer. The evening will feature delicious food, a silent auction and a cooking demonstration to be held at the extraordinary event space located at God’s Love We Deliver in Manhattan.

On this special occasion, we will be honoring notables in the medical community and celebrities who have been outspoken about their personal journey as cancer survivors, their dedication to the cancer community and the work they have done to increase awareness and support for cancer patients and survivors. This will be a joyful celebration of their work, our gathered community, connecting friends old and new.

For the past ten years, Cook for Your LIFE has empowered cancer patients and survivors to live better through food education and healthy cooking. Turning nutrition guidelines into practical, easy recipes that are designed specifically for each stage of treatment, and to promote healthy survivorship, Cook for Your LIFE is not about food as medicine, nor food to cure, it is simply about the good food that nourishes and comforts during treatment. It is about the foods cancer patients crave.

The proceeds raised will support Cook for Your LIFE’s no-cost, hands-on cooking programs and the free online cooking classes and recipes on the Cook for Your LIFE website that each month, serves over 200,000 cancer patients, their families, and caregivers worldwide.

Cook For Your Life

Cook For Your Life started in 2007 after founder, Ann Ogden, was in treatment for her second cancer diagnosis, triple negative breast cancer. Ann took a break from her successful career in fashion to focus on her treatment. Suddenly immersed in the world of hospitals and cancer treatment, she became aware of how little her chemo buddies knew about healthy food. Growing up with an Italian mother from a family of chefs and a father who was a Master Baker she was easily able to adapt recipes to help her cope with side effects and eat well even on the worst days. But for her treatment friends it was a different story. She started giving cooking tips and advice, which eventually led to her free hands-on cooking classes.

Please email info@cfyl.org to register and put in subject line "10/3 (or : 10/5, 10/12)  HOPE LODGE CLASS." Space is limited. Participants must register as no walk-ins are accepted. Registration is on a first-come first-served basis. You will receive a response to confirm ONLY if you have a place or have been put on the wait list.

Breast Reconstruction Awareness (BRA) Day

Breast Reconstruction Awareness (BRA) Day was organized as a day to educate all women of their breast reconstruction options following a mastectomy or lumpectomy. This year, Dr. Constance M. Chen, her staff, and her patients, the #BosomBuddies, are launching a Decorate-a-Bra campaign to commemorate BRA Day. All are invited to decorate a bra to raise money for breast reconstruction awareness.  The bras will be used to raise money for Facing Our Risk of Cancer Empowered (FORCE), whose mission is to improve the lives of individuals and families affected by hereditary breast, ovarian, and related cancers.

On October 19, 2017, Dr Chen and the #BosomBuddies will host a BRA Day event in New York City to educate the public about breast reconstruction options, including fixing problems after unhappy reconstructions, restoring sensation to breasts after mastectomies. The decorated bras will be displayed at the event, and there will be a SmashBox makeup artist on site for mini-makeovers. Participants will vote on the best decorated bras.

For more information or to submit a bra, please contact us at info@ConstanceChenMD.com or 212-792-6378.

ABSOLUTELY SAFE, Documentary Film Screening with the Director

  • New York University Langone Medical Center (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Last year nearly 400,000 women in the United States got breast implants. At a time when more women than ever are making this choice, fewer voices than ever seem to be asking, "Why?" And fewer still are asking, "Are they safe?" ABSOLUTELY SAFE (2009) takes an open-minded, personal approach to the controversy over breast implant safety. Ultimately, ABSOLUTELY SAFE is the story of everyday women who find themselves and their breasts in the tangled and confusing intersection of health, money, science and beauty. At its heart, ABSOLUTELY SAFE is driven by the experience of the filmmaker's own mother. Diagnosed in 1974 with breast tumors, Audrey Ciancutti underwent a double mastectomy with silicone-implant reconstruction surgery. A year later, her implants ruptured and, soon after, her health steadily declined. Like thousands of other women, Audrey believes her debilitating illnesses (joint pain, chronic fatigue, scleroderma) are linked to her breast implants; however, most doctors and researchers deny this link. Among the debate by plastic surgeons, toxicologists, attorneys, implant manufacturers, whistle blowers, government officials and activists, ABSOLUTELY SAFE introduces more everyday women like Audrey who make choices about their breasts in our appearance-driven culture.

1 hour 22 minutes.

Directed by Carol Ciancutti-Leyva.
